Join the Orchestra
The Itasca Symphony Orchestra performs three times a year in November, February, and May at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Musicians are welcome to join the orchestra. Rehearsals run from September – May with generally a break in December on Monday nights from 6:30-8:30 pm in the band room of the Robert J. Elkington Middle School in Grand Rapids. Keith Swanson, Symphony Conductor
Keith Swanson has been the music director and conductor of the Itasca Symphony Orchestra since 1992. As a 1973 graduate of the University of Minnesota in Duluth, Mr. Swanson has been an active conductor and director of musical performances in the Duluth area. Presently, he is Director of Music at Hermantown High School. His love of opera has served him as director of many opera productions from 1991 – 1999 at Northland Opera Theater Experience. He also was music director of Lyric Opera of the North’s production of Mozart’s Magic Flute and Benjamin Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream. With the cast and crew of Colder by the Lake, he conducted for the satirical musical comedies Les Uncomfortables and Phantom of the NorthShor.
